The Tallahassee-Haiti Medical Team (THMT) provides medical care and other services to the people of Campeche-Dumay, a small community located in the mountains east of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Founded by Dr. T. Woodrow Smith shortly after the devastating earthquake in 2010, THMT organizes teams of volunteer doctors, nurses, EMTs, students, and lay persons to conduct week-long medical missions at a small clinic in Campeche-Dumay. Medical team members also help out in the local school and orphanages and teach adult medical education classes. In the summer of 2013, team volunteers began assisting the Rotary Club in setting up and maintaining a water purification project in the village. Ultimately, THMT's goal is to establish the Campeche-Dumay Primary Care Center that will serve both as a permanent healthcare provider for the community and as a training facility for future Haitian medical professionals.
